Highlights of Toronto Living

Moving from home to the big city has surprisingly been a fairly smooth and easy transition for me. I grew up on a pig farm in Blenheim, a small town roughly 270 kilometers south of Toronto. I wasn’t sure what to expect in my move to the city, but over the last couple of months and with careful consideration I’ve come up with a list of things I love about Toronto:

-       - Entertainment. The city is renowned for its wonderful events, bars, and attractions. Whether it be hitting up events like Nuit Blanche or scaling the CN Tower, boredom is something I’ve yet to experience in my time here.

-     -  Food. Although I’m a college student so funds are limited, I’ve managed to take advantage of Toronto’s many diverse restaurants. Personal favourites are ViBo and Snakes and Lattes on Bloor. I’m looking forward to the next four years of food, so stay tuned!
-       - Public Transit. The Toronto Transit Commission truly is a wonderful thing. Although many Torontonians have their complaints about the TTC (as do I), it’s generally a reliable, cheap, and easy way to get around. One of the best parts of moving to Toronto was kissing my insurance and gas fees on my truck goodbye!

-       - Education. There are numerous exhibits to check out in Toronto, whether you’re craving history or an interactive experience. The Royal Ontario Museum, a personal favourite, is a great place to check out international history and explore ancient world cultures. The Toronto Zoo is the largest zoo in Canada and represents seven different geographical regions. As an animal lover and travelling buff, I feel that hanging out at the zoo makes for a perfect afternoon.
-       - Shopping. The Downtown Chatham Centre is the closest mall to where I live at home. It has about 30 stores and is a 20-minute drive from my house. The Toronto Eaton Centre has roughly 330 stores and is a simple streetcar ride away from my residence. Not to mention the hundreds of shops you pass by on the way to the mall. You do the math!

Although at this point I’m sure you can’t imagine why, I actually do miss Blenheim. Luckily, there are many fun things in Toronto to ebb the nostalgia. I’m so excited to explore the city for the next four years, so let me know if there’s something I should check out!

  1. Great post Raina! Have you checked out the Mesopotamia exhibit on right now at the ROM? It looks like a neat one to check out. Thanks for the restaurant tips, I'll be sure to check out the places you suggested.
