The Power of YouTube

On September 19, 2011 a little girl named Sophia Grace Brownlee uploaded a video to her YouTube page of her and her sidekick, in full princess getup singing along to the Nicki Minaj song Super Bass. Within a month it has already had over 7,000,000 views.

Why, do you ask, would over seven million people watch a video of a toddler singing along with a rap song? Watch for yourself.

This little girl's sing along caught the attention of Ellen and on Wednesday's show she flew Sophia Grace and her family to California to have the two girls perform, with one small surprise, she asked Nicki Minaj to join them as well.

It seems mind blowing to think that we live in a day and age that would allow a young girl to upload a harmless video of her singing along to her favourite song and less than a month later be performing it with the songs original artist.

Ellen is frequently known to bring on to her show YouTube sensations like Sophia Grace and pair them up with their idols. In recent years the popularization of YouTube has allowed the large gap that used to be between music artists and their fans to practically disappear.

  1. This is awesome. I seen this a few weeks ago and i loved how they took them on a shopping spree. Take a look at Nicki face when she says some of the more subjective lyrics from the song.
